Getting the controller to work for these isn't as easy. There are a lot of kids games for DOS and SCUMMVM. I do remember that the controller worked in the menu with the Left Analog as the Directions and the select button as Select, I think е…ѓ was back. The keyboard works, and you have to map the input one by one. Mapping the control is pcsx-rearmed, I don't remember, there is a button to enter the menu. I built one from a different source and it worked. I haven't tried it recently with updates. Pcsx-rearmed used to freeze my system with a graphical mess as soon as the binary started. In the same menu at the top there is an option to save the core-config for that game, which is recommended if you want to use dualshock on other games.
